This chapter grieves my heart - it's the first recorded "Worship War". Worship Wars may be raging over different "new methods", but the methods of the warfare are the same. Gallio complains about the new way of worship. The leader gets beat up in the end and Gallio doesn't care. The root of worship wars is not new music or new instruments or even new postures - it is a condition of

Thirty Days of Acts - Day 17

Acts 17

I love Paul's evangelism model he displays here with his encounter at the Areopagus. He's no street preacher with a bullhorn shouting at Hell-bound sinners. He values what they value. He respects them as people, as thinkers and as spiritual people who simply had not gathered all the facts. He realized their own belief system left room for a Savior and He exalted that Savior into

Thirty Days of Acts - Day 16

Acts 16

I love Barnabas. I wanna be like Barnabas. Barnabas saw potential in Saul. It was he who defended Saul among the believers at Jerusalem back in chapter 9. However, once Barnabas left Saul, the believers there sent him home to Tarsus. They were uncomfortable with the fact that he was such a bold preacher and that he debated with the Grecian Jews. They had threatened to kill him!
